AHOORA
"All In Blood With You"

Genre: Thrash / Progressive
AHOORA play a very interesting mix of 80's type thrash with progressive metal.
The vocals are clean, and sound to me like a mix of Lee Dorrian (CATHEDRAL) and
Warrel Dane (NEVERMORE). I can hear influences from a variety of bands, ranging
from IRON MAIDEN to thrash bamds OVERKILL and EXODUS. The lyrics, which are
in English, are dark and expressive. By the way, these guys are from Iran where
all rock music is forbidden by the Islamic government. So I think it's very amazing
that this album even got made, the album is very much an act of courage as well as
proof that metal is truly universal.

BRAIN DRILL
"Apocalyptic Feasting"
Metal Blade Records
Band Myspace
|
Genre: Pure Death Metal
This album really stands out to me. Dylan Ruski's guitar work is very impressive
and technical. However, the music stays brutal throughout the
entire album. It seems there aren't very many bands that have a
perfect balance of technicality and brutality. Not full of
melodic riffs, "Apocalyptic Feasting" starts brutal and stays brutal
all the way
to the end. Lord Marco Pitruzzella does an amazing job on the drums, so fast at times
that it sounds almost humanly impossible. Jeff Hughell's bass performance is
killer, and Steve Rathjen does a great job with the vocals, combining low growls and
higher screams. Overall I am impressed with this release, and I hope to catch these
guys live.
Recommended to fans of SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION, DEEDS OF FLESH,
and so on.

DEVOURED FLESH REGURTITATION
"Bones, Flesh, 'N Partysnacks"
Grindhead Records
Band MySpace
|
Genre: Goregind
This CD contains
26 tracks of pure Grindcore. There are some moments
of catchy, groove type riffs, and lots of pure grinding chaos. The vocals are
very low and guttural, they sound like stomach mumblings or other body sounds.
The production is raw, a very underground sound. A good CD for people who
can't get enough grindcore!

HATE ETERNAL
"Fury And Flames"
Metal Blade Records
Band MySpace
|
Genre: Death Metal
Listening to this album for the first time is sort of like being beat up by several
people - punches and kicks coming non-stop from all directions.
The guitar riffs are chaotic, technical and yet brutal. On bass is Alex
Webster, so you know the bass is killer. Jade Simonetto's drumming is
like a machine gun blasting the entire album.
This album will definitely satisfy the appetite of most death metal fans. Well done!

MESHUGGAH
"ObZen"

Genre: Heavy Math Metal
Wow I am stoked about this album! It's strong and aggressive, heavy and
powerful. "ObZen" will impress fans of the band's "Destroy Erase Improve"
album. If you didn't care much for the band's last few albums, you should
really give "ObZen" a listen because it will blow you away.
I do say this from time to time, especially with a band like MESHUGGAH,
that those who might best like the album are other musicians, especially drummers
and bass players. "ObZen" has plenty of odd timing, as we have all grown to
expect from MESHUGGAH, and yet it is user friendly enough to be a favorite
listen for a long time.
